International Bridge Conference®
June 10-13, 2012 - Pittsburgh, PA

About the IBC

The International Bridge Conference® (IBC) is the pre-eminent arena for the bridge industry in North America, Europe and Asia.   Sponsored by the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP), the IBC annually attracts over 1,600 bridge owners and engineers, senior policy makers, government officials, bridge designers, construction executives, and suppliers from throughout the United States and abroad.   Now in its 29th year as an annual conference, in 2011 participants came from 48 States and 17 countries. The IBC has traditionally been planned by an all-volunteer group that provides continuing education and networking opportunities to members of all sectors of the bridge industry.

New in 2010 was the strategic partnership between the ESWP, and the Washington, D.C.-based American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA).    The two organizations worked together to develop conference curriculum focusing on bridge financing and regulations, new project delivery methods and safety to help increase participation of highway and bridge contractors and public officials.

American Road & Transportation Builders Association

ARTBA

Established in 1902 at the Cadillac Hotel in New York City, ARTBA is the oldest and most respected national transportation construction-related association. ARTBA founder Horatio Earle, a Michigan public official, was the first to articulate the need for a federally-built network of Interstate highways. Earle called it the "Capital Connecting Government Highway System," which he said, would "connect every state capital with each other and the Nation's Capital-Washington, D.C."

Earle's vision was achieved in 1956 when President Eisenhower signed the law authorizing the construction of the Interstate Highway System and creation of the Highway Trust Fund to pay for it. ARTBA members designed, built and continue to maintain the Interstate system, along with the rest of the nation's transportation network.

ARTBA created the Bridge Policy and Promotion Council (BPPC) in 2008 to help boost investment, promote new products and technologies, enhance industry communications and educate the public and government officials about the importance of the bridge sector. The BPPC will host a meeting in conjunction with the conference, resulting in additional industry executive attendance.
